This showcase features eight characters and performances that, under the
concepts of ready-made and identity collage, deliver an irreverent critique of the
stereotypes that often define identity, particularly for women.

Miami, FL – “I, Me & Myself” presents a selection of Andreina’s work centered on the idea
of identity construction through ready-made and collage techniques. It involves the
subjective creation of identity by combining elements from the artist’s family genealogy,
art history, and popular culture. It serves as a brave and honest testimony, with Andreina
presenting herself publicly, as reflected in the exhibition’s name, “Me, Myself & I”. The
exhibition opens on July 13 at the Arts Connection Foundation gallery.

Curated by Gerardo Zavarce and Félix Suazo, the exhibition includes photographs,
videos, objects, and printed materials. Zavarce, who has closely followed the artist’s
career, notes that this identity construction process has been one of evolution and
transformation. “These characters contain references to one another, some obvious and
others more subtle. They have traces like very subtle self-portraits, accompanied by
stories and objects. It is the construction of a character and the variable construction of
an identity, using collage critically, alongside ready-made.” Zavarce explained,
highlighting the critical dilemmas related to the fragility of roles and gender.
“What the viewer will see are the identities of Andreina Fuentes Angarita. It is not just
‘pieces’ that are exhibited, but the process through which she constructs a multiple,
plural, and diverse identity.”, Suazo further explains.

Andreina began her artistic journey under the pseudonym Nina Dotti. This pseudonym is
part of the ready-made exercise, combining her name, Andreina (Nina), with that of
notable Mexican photographer and political activist Tina Modotti. Nina Dotti emerged
from a process of appropriation and the construction of an artistic identity, reflecting a
complex period involving identity changes like migration.

Nina Dotti gives way to Andreina Fuentes Angarita. This exhibition marks a moment of
artistic maturity: She no longer presents herself through an alter ego but as herself,
without any subterfuge, creating various transgressive characters that reveal society’s
contradictions and uncover stereotypes limiting the freedom to be authentic. Although a
small sample of her entire body of work, the exhibition summarizes the evolution of her
concept and exploration of identity over the past twenty years.

“This journey towards acceptance, under my real name, is my reinvention. Many people
don’t know I was Nina Dotti, and they will be surprised.” The artist remarked. Approaching
art not through formal academic study but from experiences in various fields such as law,
humanities, and museology, Andreina defines herself in many other roles: collector,
philanthropist, entrepreneur, writer, and artist. This diversity is reflected in her multiple
personalities.

“Gerardo and I shifted the focus of identity from the ideological or social matrix to the very
act of constructing that identity. What is unique about Andreina is her distinct method of
building a multifaceted identity,” commented Suazo.

Characters featured in the exhibition include Tina Nina / Tina Dotti, Superwoman, María
Maletas, Doña Delincuente, Miss Wynwood, Golden Nina, and Frida Nina, among others.
